SAN DIEGO -- Padres rookie phenom Fernando Tatis Jr. exited Tuesday's game against the Rays in the top of the seventh inning with a lower back spasm, the club announced.

While at-bat in the bottom of the sixth, Tatis was evaluated by a team trainer, but he remained in the game and struck out two pitches later. After, Tatis retreated to the clubhouse, apparently for treatment. Tatis missed a month from May into June with a left hamstring strain.

A favorite for the National League Rookie of the Year Award, Tatis was hitting .317/.379/.590 at the time of his exit. In his place, the Padres moved Luis Urias to short and inserted Greg Garcia at second.
